That’s Not Normal: Changing Systems, Not Students

Session Description

What if the classroom practices we call “normal” are excluding the very children they’re meant to support?

Through an interactive activity, a neurodiversity-affirming framework, and lived experience from both a caregiver and autistic student perspective, mother and daughter, Stephanie and Campbell will examine the expectations placed on diverse learners, identify hidden barriers to participation, and distinguish between practices that support learning and those that simply enforce conformity.

Objectives

Participants will leave with practical strategies for adapting classroom environments in ways that increase access, autonomy, and belonging—for all kinds of minds.
