The Journey of a Thousand Miles: Building Capacity to Educate Students with Disabilities

Session Description

Catholic schools strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students. But, creating approaches to educating students with disabilities in Catholic school settings does not materialize from thin air.  Quality programs come from careful, systematic planning and a commitment to concretizing a school’s Catholic identity and living a preferential option for those that are marginalized.  In this session, participants will have the opportunity to explore planning checklists and inventories to apply to their own school settings.

Objectives

  1. Name common barriers to building capacity to educate students with disabilities in Catholic schools
  2. Describe a framework to apply to local school settings to build capacity to educate students with disabilities.
