Dr. Walter is a tenure-track assistant professor in the School of Education at Rockhurst University. Prior to her time in higher education, she taught English, social science, reading and AVID in the Blue Valley USD in Overland Park, Kansas. She was honored as the 2008 Blue Valley Teacher of the Year. Dr. Walter’s primary research agenda revolves around the achievement gap in minoritized populations in Kansas City, Missouri. Additional research interests include educational leadership, trauma-informed schools, inclusion and access, and social justice. She teaches a variety of courses in the school of education: Introduction to Education, Foundations of Classroom Management, Foundations of Special Education, Curriculum/Methods/Assessment for Secondary Educators, and Student Teaching Seminar. Additionally, she has taught the Higher Education Assessment, Teacher Leadership, and Classroom Management in Higher Education courses in the RU EdD program. Her philosophy of education is closely tied to the Jesuit Core Values of Magis and Cura Personalis as she seeks to engage pre-service and in-service teachers in the ideals of St. Ignatius of Loyola.
